The design of my dream classroom is geared towards a special education classroom. When they first enter the classroom, the students will have their own locker area to work on independence when storing their items. There is also a full-length mirror so that they can do their affirmations, this could include “I am smart, I am brave, I am beautiful, etc.” Using the mirror will help train them to think these things as they see themselves. In one area of the room is my desk next to the carpet, this is where we would sit for whole group instruction. I added comfy seating to this area as well as a small whiteboard easel and a TV screen to have slideshows as well as videos. Next to this area is a cubby that would include books and bins for stations. On the opposite side of the classroom, there is a half-circle desk that I would use for individual instruction and small groups. In the corner are some more play-based activities for the students during breaks as well as to use for individual work. There is another table in the room that I have envisioned for the students to work on individual work or if they were working with an aide. Due to this being a special education classroom and my dream classroom, I have a sensory room connected to my classroom. In this room, I have placed swings and comfy seating. In real life, I would have a lot more sensory toys and stations in this room. An outside play area was also added to my dream classroom. There were not many options on my software, but I included a swing along with soft slides, in real life I might add monkey bars and a bigger area for them to climb and run around.
