In the Danielson Framework, Domain 1 is all about planning and preparation. This can be just as simple as knowing the content of what you're teaching yourself. As well as how to teach it in a way that helps every single kid understand it in their own way and planning with flexibility.

Adapted Assessment
In my Culturally Relevant Pedagogy class, our professor put us in small groups and gave us each a different worksheet. We were then asked to take this worksheet and adapt it for an MLL student. The worksheet my group was given was about clouds and different types of weather. The original worksheet had a lot of words and was super overwhelming. So, we took this worksheet and created an adapted one with visuals. We also changed the wording of some of the worksheets so that the vocabulary was not as difficult to understand. Throughout the adapted assessment, we demonstrated Domain 1 of the Danielson Framework. Domain 1 is about planning and preparation which can mean the level at which you, as the teacher, know the content or how you plan to teach it. Danielson 1b is Demonstrating the Knowledge of Students. In this worksheet, we understood that these students might learn differently, especially if they are at a different level. Therefore, we adapted our worksheet to meet their needs. A worksheet with no pictures and lots of words may be very overwhelming for an MLL student. Adapting the worksheet to make it easier to understand what is being asked will meet their needs. Danielson 1d, Demonstrating Knowledge of Resources was demonstrated in this assignment when we added pictures as a resource for the students. On the worksheet, pictures may help students to visually see what some of these new vocabulary words mean as well as to guide them through the worksheet. Overall, domain 1 was demonstrated through the planning and preparation which would be able to help each kid understand it in their own way. |
